Materials
Materials: Pac Bags are renowned for their legendary quality,
which is why we are commited to using only the finest materials we
can find so as not to compromise the quality or design of our
products. We take pride in producing a bag that will provide you
with many years of enjoyment through its functional and durable
performance.
Dupont® brand cordura: www.dupont.com/cordura
In our research we have found dupont brand cordura to be the
highest quality (cordura is a nylon fabric that has very high
abrasion and puncture resistance). There are off-shore
"cordura's" and polyesther "cordura's" which
are, in our opinion, not the same. We use Cordura 1000 on the
outside of all our shoulder bags. The "1000" after Cordura
is the size of the filiament of the thread, a "Cordura
500" has smaller thread and is therefore more supple. We use
Cordura 500 for the inside pockets and shoulder pads.
Dupont is the thread manufacturer that sells the thread to dyers
who make the thread into cordura fabric. Even in Dupont Cordura you
will find manufacturing differences; Dupont has minimum
manufacturing qualifications that these manufactures must meet.
There are minimum thread counts (basically how many stitches per
inch, the density) but this varies form manufacturer to manufacturer
and there are those that exceed the minimum thread counts (tighter
weave) we have searched extensively to find the highest quality
Cordura manufacturers, this is the Cordura that you will find on pac
bags.
Tapecraft brand webbing: www.tapecraft.com
The webbing that we use is tapecraft brand webbing because of
it's consistancy and quality.
YKK® zippers: www.ykkamerica.com
We use YKK exclusively in our products, in our experience nothing
stands up like YKK.
Velcro® brand hook and loop: www.velcro.com
We've been around the hook and loop block a few times, but there
is no one that comes close to velcro, it will outlast Anything.
National® moulding buckles and fastners: www.duraflexbuckles.com
We use both nylon and acetal plastics fastners by national
moulding buckles. Nylon is softer, more impact resistant; while
acetal is more brittle but has higher tensile strength. For instance
in our 2"buckles we use an acetal male buckle for strength and
a nylon female buckle for impact.
We also use a few models of ITW Nexus® brand hardware
when their styles suit us better: www.itwnexus.com
Foam padding: we use Evazote 50 closed cell foam for all the
padding in our bags (back and shoulder padding) this is the only non
U.S. made material we use; it is imported from the U.K. This is the
best-closed cell foam available.
